Comprehension
Comprehension is the ultimate goal of reading. The 6 main strategies for reading comprehension are:
1. Using prior knowledge (students use what they already know to make sense of a text)
2. Predicting (making guesses on what will happen next, which is also related to prior knowledge)
3. Identifying main idea and summation (students are determining what is important and explaining it in their own words)
4. Questioning (asking questions during reading helps the student remain engaged and focus on the meaning)
5. Making inferences (students are using their prior knowledge and recognizing clues from the text)
6. Visualizing (students make a mental picture of what they are reading)
